Photographer – paper manufacturer – art printer
A classic among the Czech photographers.
His unique approach to photography rightfully places him among the photographers´ elite.
He develops his photos on canvases and hand-made Japanese paper. Silver gelatine and up to 7 preparatory layers on canvas represent the author´s original technique and are a result of a three years’ research and development.
Pictures made this way excel in their durability and they characterize the author´s work.
In his free creation V. Brunton tries to express the importance of the inner search which can lead a man towards contentment and freedom, as opposed to the negative influences of the ever more aggressive surroundings. His photographic pictures are an expression of his personal experiences in relation to people, nature, objects and landscape.
The artist´s extensive work does not focus merely on free creation but it also includes portraits of personalities such as Dalajlama, Miloš Forman and many others. The author´s most well-known work is a collection of portraits of famous personalities with their life-size photographic pictures signed and dated by the portrayed personality and kept with others in a valuable collection. The signed portraits of Vaclav Havel, Tomas Bata and 60 more personalities will remain a lasting memory of them.

My guide through the world of photographers Jaroslav Kučera introduced me to his new discovery. Vladimír Brunton (*1961) inherited from his granddad, a teacher and a photographer, old-fashioned cameras, laboratory equipment and chemicals whose functionality he has prolonged to this day. On a canvas or Japanese hand-made paper of his own production (!) he applies a light-sensitive emulsion and creates a unique and non-standard positives of his shots directly on the frame while still wet. (As can be seen from the photograph, Vladimir doesn´t wear socks and at home in Kostelec na Hane he goes for walks with his dog barefoot. He hasn´t been ill for two years.) Well, old time manners seem to be coming back into fashion not only in photographic technologies …
